Whive is an African social networking website that was launched in Kenya about one year ago. Whive which has an easy two step registration process and friends invite step is comparatively an easier site to join than the other social networks. It is indeed taking a journalistic approach to content management with the development of Blog, Forum and Article applications that allow the bees (members) to buzz away as they type and create textual content.
The site which already boasts of a number of cool and exciting features is based on the theme of the Bee Colony where members are referred to as Bees and the Site is referred to as the Web Hive.
The site has its own currency called Bee Bucks, which is anticipated to be for the addition of ecommerce services in the very near future.
Whive.com also has the following features Videos, Photos, Events, Friendships, Chat, Groups and MP3 radio that are common with other social sites but with the added value of allowing members to publicize their activities. Whive.com is a promising social site with huge potential and has already proven its proficiency in capturing the African Internet audience.
Currently Whive.com is available in English and Swahili, which is the most spoken language in Africa after English and French. It is also being translated into the popular Nigerian languages such as Igbo and Hausa. It will therefore be available to an African audience of 400 million people.
Whive.mobi is the mobile application developed for Whive.com, which is currently available in English and will also be available in other African languages. Currently Whive.mobi is accessible on all phones enabled with WAP and has very good mobile browser capability enabling it to be highly usable in Web enabled phones including the Nokia and Iphone series.
However in order to have a greater impact within the African mobile telephony network of which at least 50% are supported by the Nokia brand handsets we intend to render a Nokia compatible version of Whive.mobi that will use various capabilities of the handset to support communication as well as advertising.
